First Focus Student Course Book, Charts 1-3 ( 224 pages)

This is the first book in the standard First Focus Reading program, covering Charts 1 through 3 long & short vowels. This Course Book addressed the following reading skills: The Names of the letters of the Alphabet, teaches recognition of upper and lower case letters. Charts 1 is used to teach the names of the letters. Consonant sounds are taught as a Chart 2 skill, students are taught the imaginary picture story where each letter represents a picture that provides the consonant sound, examples are T is a picture of a telephone pole, V is a picture of a vase. Long Vowel sounds are taught as a Chart 3a skill and the student in introduced to the Reading Code for long vowels. Short vowel sounds are taught as a Chart 3b skill with focused practice on the short vowel sounds. Chart 3ab is used to teach reading phrases and sentences that include words with both long and short vowels. This course book has exercises in penmanship, numbers, writing a student's name, address, telephone number and writing upper case and lower case letters.
